Show Notes

Brett Jarman has been operating businesses since he was 19 years old.  He has worked in the manufacturing, service, marketing and non-profit sectors over all that time.  He’s passionate about helping people to realize all of their earning potential.

Through his company Help Me Leverage he uses content marketing to help individuals and businesses level up.  He has a deep understanding of all the stages of a businesses lifecycle.  Today he reveals how to take your business over the hump of the startup phase.

You have to establish your value before you leverage it.  Entrepreneurs are more interested in the leverage rather than the value side.  There are some universal principles that apply to all businesses.

The first is asking “Who” instead of “How”.  Instead of asking “How can I do this?” ask “Who can do this for me?”.   The master of this is Richard Branson who is the king of leverage.  The reason for that is that he delegates outcomes instead of delegating tasks.

You can’t get bogged down in the weeds telling someone how to do something.  They won’t understand why they’re doing it.  Do your best to make yourself redundant.  The thing that holds most business owners from leveraging is they are not that special.  Things don’t have to be done as good as you could do it.  They just have to get done.

If you display your expertise to the market that becomes a huge attractor for customers.  Brett believes content marketing and authority marketing is a hugely important part of that.  Content marketing markets the brand.  Authority marketing markets the person.  Marketing yourself as an authority is really attractive to potential customers.

Brett produces podcast for his clients along with blog posts and LinkedIn posts.  Being regular and consistent in your online marketing is so important. That’s why getting someone else to handle your social presence is really worth it.  Most people don’t have time for a daily post.

More about this Show

We started Business Legal Lifecycle to create a simple way for you to understand complex legal terms.  Most importantly we want to help you to develop a plan to take your business successfully into the future.  There’s a startling statistic the underscores the importance of developing a solid plan.  The majority of business owners are just seven months away from losing everything.  A single aspect of your business that is not set-up correctly can shut down your whole operation very quickly.   Legal advice is not cheap and even when you can afford it there is often a divide between lawyers and their clients.  We want to close that gap once and for all.  We want to put legal knowledge and tools into your hand to prevent the worst from happening to you.

Twice a week we are going to deliver those tools right to your home or office with Business Legal Lifecycle TV.  We’ll start the week with Fast Fix Monday, a short 5-10 minute video that will tackle a single issue that businesses have to deal with.  Then on Wednesday’s our main show will feature with more fulsome discussions and interviews all delivered in a straightforward and easy to understand format.
