Why is the law confusing?

What does that mean? Why does it have to be so confusing? What do I need to do? Understanding what the law means or why you need to take certain legal steps can often be very confusing. This is a common problem for business owners, they find a lot of the concepts and language around the law confusing. This then leads to them ignoring the issues which then leads to problems occurring in their business that could have been prevented, costing a lot of money.

Understanding the legal aspects of your business is crucial for your success. All too often we see business owners spend thousands, tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to solve a legal problem in their business. Often this occurs because they take a reactive rather than proactive approach to the law.

Nature of the law

The nature of the law can often seem confusing, often lawyers use big words or jargon that they know the meaning of but ordinary business people do not know. This makes it seem like it is a confusing process and that lawyers are the only ones who know the law.

In addition to this there is a misconception out there that legal problems are black and white, that there is a yes or a no answer to the problems. Nothing could be further from the truth. Law is full of different nuances and subtle changes that mean that what is correct legal advice for one person may be entirely wrong for another person. If this wasn’t the case there would be no need for lawyers and judges to interpret the law.

Not understanding the law

Due to these reasons the law becomes this big confusing area that often business owners tell themselves that they can’t understand. The truth is that if you want to learn different legal areas that you can educate yourself on those areas without a law degree. Of course you shouldn’t just go and try and implement those areas by yourself, but you need to educate yourself so you know what and why you need to take certain legal steps.

By its very nature law is a confusing topic, but you can educate yourself on different legal concepts. There is a lot of information online that can help to educate you. At Business Legal Lifecycle we know that dealing with a lawyer can be difficult, it can seem daunting and costly. That is why we have designed our Legal Risk Assessment Tool and Education Course to help you to understand the law without a law degree.
